GirlHacker's Moving FAQ - July 2003

What? Are you really moving out of the Bay Area?
Yes, I really am. It was a difficult and lengthy decision process for us, especially since we purchased our house last year intending to stay for a very long time. We will miss our wonderful friends and activities here, but are excited to try out a new environment.

Where are you moving to?
The Seattle area, more specifically the Bellevue, WA area.

Why are you moving?
The company at which I work was purchased by a company in Redmond, WA (take one guess) and we are being relocated as a result.

Hey, that was startup number five. Did you get rich this time?
Nope. But I still have a great job, as does my husband who gets to keep his current job.

Was that your last startup?
Ask me again in fifty years.

What will it be like working for a huge corporation after twelve years of tiny tiny?

More resources, more employee training, insanely better benefits. Less sun.

Will your weblog content change because of your new employer?
Regular readers know I do not discuss my job on my weblog. With that said, Microsoft has its fingers in many tech pies, so to strictly stay away from "work" is to have to ignore much of the high tech industry. That is not going to happen. But I don't expect to alter anything I write because of who I work for or to become a mouthpiece for my employer. I've officially been a Microsoft employee for almost three months and haven't changed how I write my weblog. What you can expect to change now is less talk about the East Palo Alto, CA IKEA finally opening up and more talk about the Renton, WA Fry's Electronics finally opening up. Fry's sells Microsoft products and IKEA doesn't, so you can see I'm already biased!

I hate Microsoft and I am going to stop reading your weblog and won't believe anything you say anymore. Open Source Rules!
Please restate your comment in the form of a question. Thank you.
